Spring Events in Vail

The sun is shining over Vail these days, and what a time it is to hit the slopes for some spring skiing fun! With the days spent carving the sun-splashed slopes, late afternoons and evenings are left free to explore what Vail has to offer. To make it easier for you, we’ve compiled a list of the main events happening this spring that aren’t to be missed!

Taste of Vail

Explore Vail through the ever-evolving cuisine and beverages that it has to offer. From March 30 – April 3, over thirty of Vail’s top chefs and restaurateurs come together to provide you with a memorable gastronomic experience you will be hard-pressed to forget. In addition, nearly fifty of the US’s top wineries flock to this beautiful mountain town to showcase their finest wines to the public!  Your taste buds will delight over the succulent, delicious, smooth, robust, and unique flavours that will be showcased throughout this event. This event is created to promote the amazing resort’s cuisine and its exquisite lifestyle.

Over a dozen events are to take place throughout this food festival, including a Grand Tasting and Auction, a Celebrity Chef Tour, and a Lamb Cook-Off and Après Ski Tasting. This is an experience you can’t miss this year. Check out their webpage for more information on all the other events, pricing, and locations!

Pink Vail

pink vail

Unfortunately, almost everyone’s life  has been touched  in some way by cancer. We’ve seen all sorts of ingenious ways people show support: dressing in colours, growing facial hair, running marathons, and so much more.

Well, on April 2 in Vail this year, Pink Vail will take over the town as the world’s biggest ski day to take on cancer. A family event, Pink Vail is accessible to everyone, and you don’t have to ski to participate. Complete with a costume contest, live music, awards, and après, Pink Vail has taken over the town since 2012, and all the proceeds go to Shaw Regional Cancer Center, a local nonprofit organization. To contribute, you can register as an individual or a team in order to fundraise for this cause. How can you say no to such a great pairing: skiing and supporting cancer patients and survivors? Beautiful event, not to be missed!

Spring Back to Vail

There’s nothing like a close of season festival quite like Vail’s Spring Back to Vail!

From April 8 – 10 the town celebrates the joy of spring, featuring stellar spring skiing with a slew of events. For instance, the Vail Film Festival Virtual Reality tent will be showcasing incredible screenings all weekend such as Cirque du Soleil, Safaris, and News Stories. Another incredible event is the World Pond Skimming Championships.

On April 10 at Golden Peak, come on out to see contestants try their ski skills on water. An enjoyable and hilarious event, pond skimming is not to be missed. Expo Village will be sponsoring the weekend’s events, and will be filled with live music, giveaways, and great après. Spring Back to Vail will keep you dashing from event to event all weekend long!

While all of these epic events are going on, don’t forget that spring season means extra savings!

At Vail Cascade Resort and Spa, enjoy majestic views and a ski-in-ski-out location while saving 35% on an alpine room this March! This resort offers not only a fantastic location, but also amazing amenities that will keep you entertained and pampered throughout your stay.

Top 9 Reasons We Love Spring Skiing!

It’s always a mixed feeling: the days are longer and sunnier, and the snow is less frequent and heavier. Are we excited about spring or lamenting the end of winter? Well, how about neither? Spring skiing has so much to offer for snowsport enthusiasts, and here are our top ten reasons why you will also love skiing in the spring!

1. Spring Sun!

photo: Jack Affleck

Spring is the time to let your ski and snowboarding skills bloom in the sun! Instead of short days and clouds that coat the mountains with fresh white snow, you can experience the beauty of spring while still being able to ski! While you hit the slopes, take in the green of the trees, the new buds on the branches, and the sun on your face. No more bitter cold wind that slashes at your face on those brutal winter days. Forget frozen toes! Shed a layer or two of those pesky, heavy winter coats and free up your body to make some light and tight turns on the mountain.

2. Longer Days = Longer Après

After spending that sunny day on the mountain, not only can you spend more time skiing, but also you get a chance to enjoy the après offers for much longer! Longer days equal longer après, and you can sip a cider on a patio in the sun to rejuvenate your muscles and satisfy your soul. You know that you’d rather be outside for the après, and warmer weather means you can! Check out our Vail’s Apres-Ski Guide.

3. Goggle Tans

photo: Jack Affleck

Oh yes. We know that everyone secretly covets that cool skier or snowboarder who comes on in after a day on the slopes, removes her helmet and goggles, and has a perfect goggle tan line. It’s a sign of dedication and almost a badge of pride! With more sun outside, you can soak in Vitamin D, and come home at the end of a day with your own goggle tan – a sign of a successful day on the mountain.

4. Avoid the Crowds

Snow snobs head home when the sun begins to shine. Luckily for you, that means shorter lift lines, which means more chances to get in all those extra runs you couldn’t when the lines were longer. You may even find some fresh snow all to yourself!

5. Possible Powder

Pay no attention to those who say it doesn’t snow in the spring. The last storms of winter often have one or two dumps left in them once April comes around. Patience is a virtue, and powder comes to those who wait!

6. Get the Groomers

ski Vail

To make the most of the spring skiing season, make sure you check out which runs are groomed and cared for so that the snow will be optimal on warmer days. Sometimes, these runs are the best to hit up when the sun bakes the slopes!

7. Learn to Turn

Classic Vail Ski School

If you have family just learning to ski, this is the perfect time to get them to learn to turn in the snow! Forgiving conditions and warm weather allows for a more pleasant learning experience than when the weather plunges into the double negatives. In addition, class sizes are smaller, and you can take the opportunity to perfect your turning in smaller group classes, or even private lessons!

8. Spring Festivals and Events

After a dark and dreary winter, everyone starts to come alive when the sun comes out. A celebratory mood really livens up the air, and everyone springs into action with fun festivals and epic events. Make sure to check out your  mountain events calendar to get involved with the bright and friendly mood of the season!

Top 5 Reasons to Bring the Kids Up to Vail and Beaver Creek for Spring Break

Your kids have just got a week off of school and are begging for you to take them on an adventure – but where to go and what to do? Here are 5 top reasons to bring the kids to Vail and Beaver Creek this Spring Break. We bet the whole family will have a blast on Vail Mountain!

1. Adventure Ridge

What to do today? Tubing? Ski biking? Snowmobiling? Eco-learning? Adventure Ridge has it all! Start off your day with the kids at the Nature Discovery Centre and learn about the wildlife in the area. Opening at 11am, this free exhibit also offers free daily snowshoe tours at 2pm to get a feel for the land and learn about your surroundings! If the kids are getting antsy after a morning of learning, check out Adventure Ridge’s innovative ski bikes: part ski, part bike, all fun!

Aventure Ridge

These incredible hybrid vehicles will have your kids squealing with laughter and racing around the hills as they try out their new favourite sport. With guided tours Tuesday-Saturday, you get your choice of afternoon runs or nighttime adventures!

After a fun-filled afternoon, check out Bistro Fourteen for their après from 4-6pm. With $3 drafts and $5 wines, you can enjoy a cuppa while the kids dig in to the $10 kids menu! Everyone wins here.

2. DEVO

Now here’s something that will have your kids talking about it for weeks: the Vail Development Team. With a mission to create lifelong skiers and snowboarders, DEVO is a multi-session, multi-age youth ski program that offers lessons and races for youth ages 4 to 18. The days are varied, focusing on a wide range of skills including racing, freestyle, big mountain skiing, or just beginner skills in order to accomplish everything above. You can sign up for a Saturday program, a Sunday program, a Teen program, or a Race program, each occurring over the course of several weeks. Check out the Vail blog for pricing and more info!

3. Kids’ Adventure Zones

On the mountain, the height and pitch of a run can be paralyzing – especially if you are a 4-foot kid just learning to ski! Luckily, there are specially designed runs made just for the munchkins in the Adventure Zones around the mountain! With runs like Coyote’s Escape, Magic Forest, and Buckskin Glade easily winding through wide-spaced trees, your kids will learn to navigate safely and happily around the mountain! Practicing on these runs will make pros out of your children yet!

4. Terrain Park

I think it’s time to hit the rails! Have your kids learn new tricks and turns at Whistler’s Simba and Pride Parks under the Eagle Bahn Gondola. Terrain parks may be a scary idea, but have no fear – the specially designed parks at Vail provide access to kid-sized jumps, so that your little ones can safely get a taste of flying. If nothing else, the terrain parks like Golden Peak – which sports the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championship 22ft Half Pipe – under the Riva Bahn chairlift are a great place to watch advanced skiers and snowboarders take on some pro-style jumps with flair and grace.

5. Thursday Night Lights

photo: Chris Mc Lennan

Finally, this reason alone is one to get the kids to Vail and Beaver Creek. On Thursday nights from December to the end of March, get the kids outfitted for Thursday Night Lights! Running from dusk until 5, 6, or 7pm, it’s an event that will light up the sky and leave your family glowing! It consists of a glow stick ski-down of Beaver Creek Mountain complete with fireworks and music to groove to on your way down. Not at an intermediate skiing level? No worries, it’s just as incredible to watch from the sidelines.

There you have it! The five best reasons to make Vail and Beaver Creek your top choice of a family Spring Break destination! Don’t forget that the powder is fine in March & April at over 3,000 metres, and so is the vibe! Check out more things to do on and great spring lodging offers on Enjoy Vail website.

How to Vail like a Rockstar

Inspired by confirmed celebrity sightings, rock star gossip and après mingling alongside the rich and famous, we decided it was high time to deliver the goods; a how-to Vail like a rockstar guide.

Maybe your private jet is booked for its monthly repairs or perhaps your personal pilot has the weekend off, lucky for you, there are plenty of first class airline options out there to choose from. See United, American Airlines or Delta for offers. Benefits include pillows, duvets, fold out beds, liquor and noise cancelling headphones so you don’t have to listen to the bodily functions of the pesky economy class.

Upon arrival, one must be sure to travel in the utmost of luxuries, such as being chauffeured around in a stretch SUV limo or limo bus while drinking ice cold bubbly and blasting Drake, or renting a high end ride, rolling down the windows, blasting the heat and well, also, probably listening to Drake. Pro tip: make sure you’ve invited friends who are slightly less funny, less good looking and think you’re swell, a supportive entourage is key.

Remember, rock stars like to be seen being seen. So skip out on the famous but hidden Vail Modern Architectural Masterpiece and park that luxury sedan as close as humanly possible to the front door of the Sebastian Hotel, The Arrabelle at Vail Square or The Lodge at Vail. Nonchalantly toss your keys to the most eager valet worker standing guard and slip them a quick bill, make sure it’s big and make sure people see it.

Sebastian Vail

Perhaps the idea of having to walk passed everyday Joes in a hotel hallway makes you feel queasy? Well, rest assured that at the private condos in the Vail Mountain Lodge, you only have to make eye contact with whom you really want to; yourself. Kick back, unpack and sprawl the contents of your Louis Vuitton bags everywhere humanly possible so the housekeeping staff knows you’re someone who is someone.

Now, between the luxury traveling, the gratuitous selfies and the plain old sitting around, it has no doubt been a big day already and you’re obviously hungry. Heck, even rock stars need to eat. While it’s no secret that Mr. Timberlake and Cameron Diaz have been spotted at Los Amigos, mingling with the normies, you’re a more glamorous kind of soul. Larkspur is a great go to choice for delicious food amongst other high-end company or alternately, for something a little more laid back but still high class, get over to Bol, a fun loving restaurant, lounge and bowling alley. Kick up those retro shoes, let your hair down and have a time.

After some good afternoon prep, you and your posse is warmed up and ready for a night on the town. No rock star trip is complete without an expensive, over indulgent night of shaking your bits on the dance floor. Always careful to express only the hippest new moves, Whiskey Jack’s is the go to groove floor. Make some new, fun, temporary friends by picking up the shots tab or throw down some plastic for a round on you.

You survived the night and while your memories might have a slight fog surrounding them, you’re fairly confident that you let your rock star spirit soar and you were, as usual, the life of the party. Now, the sun is blazing through the window and you know the hill is waiting. But first, coffee.

These days coffee is not just a beverage it’s an experience. You can’t just be guzzling down any old brown brew, nope, only the finest will do. Minx your way down to Loaded Joes and find yourself among all the other geniuses that know where to get their fix. While you’re there, you best grab a breakfast bun and soak up some of last night’s fun.

Of course, you bought all new, shiny, loud, neon colored gear for your debut on Vail Mountain as per the old fake it ‘til you make it advice. But now, rock star riding in Vail, Colorado is a fine balance between actually sliding on the snow on your weapon of choice (assuming you actually know how) and hanging out at The 10th mid-mountain restaurant, giving out high fives and chanting “shots” amongst your group of pals. This will provide a great excuse later for unsuccessfully dismounting the chairlift, falling over nothing in front of a crowd of onlookers or “forgetting” how to “carve the slopes”.

Your level of skill will depict where and when you should ride certain terrain. Showboat your legit skills on Look Ma and dazzle those mid mountain onlookers or perhaps you’re a Pepi’s Face kind of rider, steep and exposed, getting cheers and chants from the Gondola One and Los Amigos admirers.

Best pubs in vail garfinkels patio deck

Either way, wrap your shred day up with cold beer and hot nachos amongst your entourage at Garkinfel’s, where the après scene will no doubt appreciate your loud, here I am, rockstar storytelling, dubious laughter and “Did you see me do that . . .” reminiscing on the days events. After all, if you’re not being noticed, you’re not doing your job.

And then. Eat. Drink. Repeat.

But you can’t rockstar Vail without going to Vail and our customer service specialists would love to help you out with a booking. Check out EnjoyVail for more info and book your Epic Pass while you still can, until December 6, 2015.
