Vail April EventsOur Favorite Handful of Vail Events

Vail’s 50th birthday celebrations continue as the 2013 season glides towards the spring ski finale, and the Colorado mountain town is rolling out the events. Come take part in an abundance of special late-season festivities this April – from world-class food and wine festivals to free concerts and parties to memorializations of Vail legends. The insider Vail travel experts at Enjoy Vail recommend these five reasons to enjoy the resort this April, followed by our favorite handful of the guaranteed best deals on Vail hotels. The weather is fine, the skiing is superb, and the activities keep bringing the fun to Vail, so there’s no reason you’d want to miss out on Vail this April!

1)    Taste of Vail – The iconic wine and food festival turns 22 this year, aged well like the wines you’ll need to taste. The spring  festival showcases the area’s finest chefs and the nation’s top vintners, making it a world-class event of some of the finest taste experiences out there. A new Nordic Wine Tour kicks off the Taste with cross-country ski/snowshoe wine and cheese stations on the Vail Golf Course. April 3 – 6. Event tickets start from $50.

2)    Spring Back to Vail Celebration – Heralded as the biggest end-of-season bash in the Rocky Mountains, Spring Back to Vail is a full week of celebration in the sun. Going bigger than ever this year in honor of Vail’s 50th, you can check out après after-dark parties, base area giveaways, and free live concerts including reggae hero and Grammy-winner Jimmy Cliff and the legendary Sublime with Rome. April 8 – 14.

3)    50th Anniversary Film Night – Take a nostalgic look back at Vail’s 50 years in film from Roger Cotton Brown, who created the first ever promotional film about Vail in the early 60s. Both shows are free with ticket, available at Lionshead Vail Welcome Center from 9 a.m. on the day of the show only. April 4 and 11

4)    Skiing Heritage Week – Come celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime gathering of skiing, parties, entertainment, reunions with old and new friends, snowboarding, and film showings. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame induction ceremony will close off the week of events that also includes the Ishpeming International Film Festival of classic ski movies. April 8 – 14. $350 for the All-Access Pass.

5)    Vail World Pond Skimming Championships – Thousands gather to watch the costumed skiers and snowboarders vie for fame and glory as they attempt to clear a 100-foot, ice cold pond in this wacky annual close-of-season event at Lake Golden Peak at Vail Mountain’s Golden Peak Base Area. April 14. Free to watch; $75 to participate.
