Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships, February 25 – March 2, Vail Mountain
Prepare for the world’s best snowboarders showing off their stuff in Vail this spring at the Burton US Open. Having first took place in 1982, it’s now the longest-running snowboarding competition in the world, attracting the world’s top competitors. After being held on the east coast for 30 years, the event will now take center stage at Vail Mountain, Feb. 25- March 2, 2013. Check out the boarders in the new Vail super pipe for some crazy action and enjoy the vibes of free outdoor concerts by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on Friday, March 1, and Santigold on Saturday, March 2nd.
Freeride World Tour, February 27 – March 3, Kirkwood Mountain Resort
Kirkwood will play host to the only American stop for the new Swatch Freeride World Tour by The North Face, which combines the Freeride World Tour, the Freeskiing World Tour and The North Face Masters of Snowboarding to create one unified global championship series. This is going to be a heck of a competition with the very best of the world’s freeriders, ripping it up at Kirkwood on February 27-March 3.
10thAnnual Talons Challenge March 2, Beaver Creek
Adrenaline junkies tackle 26,000 vertical in one day in the 10thAnnual Talons Challenge March 2, by skiing or riding 14 of Beaver Creek’s steepest and bumpiest black diamond and double black diamond runs on the legendary World Cup Birds of Prey downhill course, Grouse Mountain, and on the flanks of Larkspur Bowl. New this year, the challenge adds Kestrel trail, created as the new women’s speed course for the 2015 FIS Alpine World Championships.
The North Face Park and Pipe Open March 7-10, Northstar
A worldwide roster of slope-style and super pipe skiers will compete for the opportunity to snatch up a prize purse worth over $20,000 at the North Face Park & Pipe Open at Northstar March 7-10. Gonna be rad.
Spring Break Luau March 9-10, Keystone
Keystone welcomes in the warm days with a new Spring Break Luau, March 9-10, at the Mountain House Base Area to channel the Hawaiian vibe right to the mountains. In line with a traditional Luau, Keystone will be helping people get Lei’d and spit-roasting a hog so come on by and enjoy live music, games, food, prizes and drink specials. Maybe even catch a sunset on the snow.
Breckenridge Spring Fever, March 17 – April 14
Breckenridge Spring Fever is an amazing month-long festival featuring some rockin good bands, thrilling competitions, and those sweet sweet Colorado blue bird days. Come for the best spring snow conditions in the country and stay for the whole month of celebrations. May as well.
Spring Loaded March 27 – April 13, Heavenly
Spring Loaded takes over Heavenly with the annual spring festival, featuring excellent live entertainment, pond skimming, parades, on-mountain concerts and lots of events. Come check out the 10th annual Gunbarrel 25, where over 200 skiers and riders test their endurance by shooting for 25 runs down the infamous Gunbarrel at Heavenly. Not to be missed.
U.S. Freestyle Championships, March 29-31, Heavenly
Heavenly is hosting the U.S. Freestyle Championship in both ’12-’13 and ’13-’14 and they’ve earned the honour. Come check out the accomplished world-class freestyle skiers (such as Heavenly’s own Sho Kashima, a U.S. Ski Team athlete) who will showcase their explosive aerial talents as they prepare for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. This is going to be one heck of a party and the biggest competition of the season, highlighted by fireworks and a live concert.
Closing Weekend Festivities April 6-7, Keystone
Keystone Resort will kick-off their closing weekend with the final installment in the River Run Rail Series. Come out and watch ski and snowboard athletes throw down their best tricks on a rail feature while jamming along to great music with cold drinks. Saturday is the River Run Rocks Concert featuring headliner Robert Randolph which will be a blast but make sure you save some for Sunday when Keystone says farewell to the 12/13 season with their third annual Slush Cup pond-skimming competition.
Spring Back to Vail, April 8-14
Vail continues to celebrate its 50thanniversary this spring, with phenomenal skiing and riding, après options galore and stupendous events and entertainment. Come vibe down to some great music from the likes of O.A.R., Sublime with Rome, and Jimmy Cliff. And soak up the excitement of the World Pond Skimming Championships as Vail closes out the season with their awesome spring festival you don’t want to miss out on.
